GreenGeeks Launches Green Reseller Hosting

Green energy web hosting provider GreenGeeks (www.greengeeks.com) has launched a green reseller web hosting service letting customers host multiple websites on wind powered servers at wholesale rates.

GreenResellerWebHosting.com (www.greenresellerwebhosting.com) gives developers and designers who manage their clients’ websites an environmentally friendly web hosting option, which includes 24/7 Green Geeks reseller support by phone, chat and email, according to GreenGeeks’ Wednesday announcement. The power consumed by GreenGeeks’ high-performance servers is offset 300 percent by wind energy credits.

“We are very excited here at GreenGeeks with the launch of our reseller web hosting service,” GreenGeeks chief executive officer Trey Gardner said in a statement. “This program has been in the works for several months and we believe we have built out one of the strongest reseller web hosting platforms around.”

Gardner said that working with GreenGeeks’ developer clients has helped the company gain insight into the needs of the marketplace, and design a program that would fully support resellers’ businesses and their growth.

The green reseller web hosting packages starts at $19.95 per month and allows resellers to host their clients’ accounts from $1.95 monthly per domain. Other reseller plans offer hosting for as little as $.39 monthly per domain.

GreenGeeks also offers green energy web hosting logos and labels for the resellers’ clients websites to show that they are hosted in an environmentally friendly web hosting environment.

New Affiliate Program from Easynet Connect

Leading internet business solutions and colocation hosting provider, Easynet Connect, just announced its first ever affiliate program to support its existing reseller program. Called Sale Agent Referral Scheme, the new program is designed to offer more opportunities for a greater range of partners to earn commissions by reselling the company’s internet connectivity and colocation services.

While the new program is available to all partners, the Sales Agent Referral Scheme will particularly benefit those who previously lacked the ability to completely manage the ongoing billing procedures and technical support issues that the role of a full-time reseller calls for. Once the referral sale has been made and the service installed, the sales partner gets a one lump-sum commission fee. From there, Easynet Connect directly provides service and support to the end-user, allowing its smaller partners to increase their cash flow without the requirement of costly upfront investments or ongoing commitments.

According to a recent announcement, the Sales Agent Referral Scheme will be run alongside Easy Connect’s current reseller program, one in which the reseller client fully owns, maintains and supports their own customers in exchange for ongoing commission payments.

Debbie Robertson, Easynet Connection Director of Sales and Marketing, said that the new program marks the first time a Business-to-Business internet service provider has offered such a scheme to its sales agents. She says the Sale Agent Referral Scheme will deliver benefits to partners of all sizes but particularly, the smaller ones. Robertson says the new scheme was implemented after receiving feedback from reseller partners who highly recommended their services but simply could not make the long-term commitment to a fully managed service or the costly setup fees. She ended by expressing how important Easynet Connect’s partners are to the company and how the new scheme was launched to reward them in simple, yet meaningful fashion.

Simon Harrison, Leased Lines UK Director, also shared his thoughts on the recent announcement. He says that Easynet Connect’s new Sales Agent Referral Scheme program model provides the ideal structure for customers to work within. He reveals that customers are now able to generate leads, deal with the initial introduction and pass their clients onto Easynet Connect’s professional IT team. According to Harrison, the model provides the perfect infrastructure as it allows customers to do what they do best, adding additional value to their services while Easynet Connect deals with all the integration, billing and technical support matters for the client.

Yahoo! Web Hosting Provider Debuts Hadoop Distribution at Summit

Yahoo! web hosting provider and Internet services company, recently made available its Distribution of Hadoop, based on code available from the Apache Hadoop project, while hosting the Second Annual Hadoop Summit.

Shelton Shugar, senior vice president of cloud computing at Yahoo! remarked, ”We know from our own experience serving half a billion users worldwide requires large-scale distributed systems, and a growing number of other companies and organizations are in need of similar capabilities. Yahoo! was a pioneer in developing the Hadoop technology and now Hadoop provides Yahoo! key software infrastructure running on tens of thousands of machines to process data critical to Yahoo!’s core business. By making the Yahoo! Distribution of Hadoop generally available, we are contributing back to the Apache Hadoop community so that the ecosystem can benefit from Yahoo!’s quality and scale investments.”

Hadoop is a distributed file system and parallel execution environment that enables its users to process massive amounts of data. In response to frequent requests from the Hadoop community, Yahoo! is opening up its investment in Hadoop quality engineering to benefit the larger ecosystem and to increase the pace of innovation around open and collaborative research and development. The Yahoo! Distribution of Hadoop has been tested and deployed at Yahoo! on the largest Hadoop clusters in the world.

Justin Erenkrantz, president of Apache Software Foundation noted, ”It’s exciting to see how the Apache Hadoop project has progressed in the last few years. We’re looking forward to seeing community growth accelerate with Yahoo!’s continued support and focus on quality, ultimately driving more contributors to the Apache Hadoop project.”

Mike Olson, CEO of Cloudera offered, ”The general availability of Yahoo!’s Hadoop source code helps make Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop even more robust and scalable, and we will continue to collaborate with Yahoo! to include their tested source code in our commercial distribution. Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop is a complete, enterprise-ready distribution inclusive of key tools, utilities, and full service and support, to help enterprises deploy and manage the Hadoop platform for large-scale data processing and management.”

Yahoo! has led the way in developing and is now the primary contributor to Apache Hadoop. In 2006, Hadoop founder Doug Cutting joined Yahoo!, and the company began making extensive investments in developing Hadoop. Hadoop now underpins many Yahoo! properties including Yahoo! Search, which is the world’s largest Hadoop application, processing data for billions of web search queries that run on Yahoo! every month, as well as Yahoo! Mail and various content and advertising services. Currently at Yahoo!, Hadoop runs on more than 25,000 servers and analyzes tens of billions of Web pages, multiple petabytes of storage and billions of new records per day.

To foster the community collaboration of the Hadoop project, Yahoo! is hosting the second annual Hadoop Summit today in Santa Clara, California, co-sponsored by Amazon Web Services, Cloudera, IBM, Lightspeed Venture Partners and Sun Startup Essentials. The event brings together hundreds of members from the Hadoop developer and user communities to learn from and share ideas with each other. Hadoop Summit will focus on the advancements made in the development and deployment of Hadoop and related technologies, as well as case studies of applications being built and deployed on Hadoop and a discussion on future directions for the platform.

The Yahoo! Distribution of Hadoop is available through the Yahoo! Developer Network. More information on Apache Hadoop is available at http://hadoop.apache.org. Cloudera’s Distribution for Hadoop, which includes the Yahoo! source code, is available at www.cloudera.com.

T35 Hosting to capitalize on the scheduled closure of Yahoo’s Geocities

Web hosting giant T35 Hosting (www.t35.com) has today announced it is to capitalize on the scheduled closure of Yahoo’s Geocities by rolling out an extensive re-design and feature overhaul to seize the former Geocities share of the web hosting market.

(19 June 2009) - - Established web hosting firm T35 Hosting has today announced it intends to capitalize on the scheduled closure of Yahoo’s Geocities, off the back of a significant redesign aimed at improving usability and providing an even better standard of service to clients.

With Geocities condemned for closure, T35 has repositioned its core free web hosting service to provide customers with a viable alternative that is not only easy to use, but also extremely reliable and feature-intensive with an emphasis on usability.

Alex Melen, President of T35 Hosting believes the closure of Geocities will mark a period of significant growth for the T35 brand, as it looks to pick up market share from the closure of its largest competitor.

“The closure of Geocities marks the end of an era in free online web hosting, and we’re happy to announce that the decision for T35 and our customers will only be a positive one. We have undergone a significant redesign of our website, not only in terms of appearance, but also in usability, adding a range of features to shore-up the user experience and provide a better all round service to our hosting customers.”

“Over the years, T35 Hosting has become something of an online institution, and I’d like to take this opportunity to assure customers that far from scheduling our own closure, we expect to continue to outperform in terms of both market share and customer experience for many more years to come.”

T35 Hosting is one of the Internet’s most established web hosting providers, offering hosting services since 1997 and operating under the T35 brand since 1999.

About:

T35 Hosting (www.t35.com) is one of the oldest and most established web hosting companies, offering clients a range of hosting solutions from ad-supported to feature-heavy cPanel web hosting. The extensive redesign also encompasses a variety of value-added features for both free and paid hosting customers, to improve user experience and leverage on the scheduled closure of the rival Geocities service.

New Interface of Google Webmaster tool

In the new interface of Webmaster tool, I have noticed something that I believe wasn’t there on the old interface:
You can let Google know when you move your site to a new domain
Quote:
Change of address

If you’re planning to move your site to a new domain, use the Change of Address tool to tell Google about your new URL. This will help us update our index faster and smooth the transition for your users.

For best results, follow these steps:

1. Set up the new site

Review our guidelines for moving your site to a new domain. Set up your content on your new domain, then make sure all internal links point to the new domain.
2. Redirect all traffic from the old site

Use a 301 redirect to permanently redirect the pages on your old site to your new site. This tells users and search engines that your site has permanently moved. Ask webmasters to update their links to point to your new domain and make sure incoming links to your old site are redirected correctly using the 301 redirects.
3. Add your new site to Webmaster Tools

Make sure you have added and verified your new domain.
4. Tell us the URL of your new domain
New URL for www.site.com:

After submitting the change of address, check your Webmaster Tools data periodically to see if your new site has been crawled and indexed (if you have a Sitemap, one way to determine this is by checking Sitemap details for the new site to see how many of the pages have been crawled and indexed).
